Cincinnati artist, Miles Wolfley exhibited drawings from his recent Art Academy of Cincinnati Thesis exhibition.

In this body of work, my focus was to delve into ancient and modern mythology, and to explore my own primal fears. While many people are frightened of confinement or the concept of death in general, my fears tend to manifest in the forms of sea monsters and half human abominations. Monsters are not only metaphors of the power of God and nature, they are a means of testing the courage of man in its most literal sense. To make this kind of work, I had to step outside my usual meditative process of creating beauty so that I could flood my subconscious with all things horrible and distressing. Ironically enough, I have come to see a certain kind of beauty in these drawings.
